Similan Islands are an island chain consisting of 9 islands in the Andaman Sea in the province of Phang Nga. The Name “Similan” drives from the Malay word “sembilan” and means 9. All nine islands are uninhabited and guarded by rangers around the clock, whose job it is to protect the local flora and fauna. A visit to the Similan Islands must be announced in advance of a complex process with the authorities. However, there are wooden and bamboo accommodations where you can sleep on the Similan. The sea and the beaches around the islands are one of the most beautiful places in the world and offer an incomparable experience for snorkeling and diving. The Similian islands are about 65 million years old and consist of granite formed by the rising lava. Most of the seabed around the islands is covered by coral reefs. Accordingly, one finds an underwater world and a biodiversity that is unique.
